MAIN ATTRACTIVES
OJOS DEL SALADO VOLCANO

The Nevado Ojos del Salado is a stratovolcano belonging to the Andes mountain range, which is located on the border between Argentina and Chile, of which it is its highest point. At 6,891.3 meters above sea level, it is the highest volcano in the world and the second highest in the southern and western hemispheres, being only surpassed by Mount Aconcagua (6960.8 meters).

The ascent to the volcano is simple except for the final section, of great difficulty, where the use of ropes and other accessories is mandatory. The first ascent was carried out by the Polish expedition of Jan Alfred Szczepański and Justyn Wojsznis in February 1937.

GREEN LAGOON

Laguna Verde is located in the Atacama Region and is actually a hypersalted mountain lake. It is close to the San Francisco international pass.

The level of its waters is 4,350 meters above sea level.

This lake is apparently devoid of life due to the extreme salinity of its waters, which are characterized by having a beautiful turquoise green color.

NEVADO DE TRES CRUCES

The Nevado Tres Cruces is a massif of volcanic origin that is off, located in the Andes mountain range on the border between the Province of Catamarca (Argentina) and the Region of Atacama (Chile). Its extension is between eight and twelve kilometers in the latitudinal sense and has three main summits, ordered from south to north:

South Summit (6748 masl)
Central Summit (6629 masl)
North Summit (6206 masl)

It closes the great volcanic avenue that borders the San Francisco pass to the south, an avenue that is formed by the following volcanoes, arranged in an east-west direction: San Francisco, Incahuasi, El Fraile, El Muerto, Ojos del Salado, Cerro Solo and Tres Cruces, not counting minor elevations.

It is the seventh summit of the Andes in order of altitude and one of the highest volcanoes in the world; it was first climbed by the second Polish expedition in 1937.

On the south side of the lagoon, on top of an adjoining hill there is a small viewpoint with information on the hills of the sector. The place can be accessed only in 4x4 vehicles, or simply on foot. La Laguna stands out for a unique landscape. Enclosed by mountains between 5000 meters to 6000 meters high, with a huge amount of animals such as Guanacos, Vicuñas, Flamingos among others.

La Laguna is a result of the special morphological situation of the sector.

It is a closed basin - with no outlet to the ocean. The water that comes from the Astaburuaga, El Desagüe etc. it can only reach the lagoon.

Further north (Maricunga, Pedernales) the salt flats are formed in this way, but here the precipitation rate is very high, which means a sufficient amount of water so that the salt does not crystallize.
